This tasty mini German chocolate cupcake recipe is guaranteed to be a hit on any restaurant or catering event dessert bar, just be prepared because once you feature this on your dessert menu all your guests will be screaming for more of your mini cupcake creations.

Tasty Mini German Chocolate Cupcake Recipe


24 Tablespoons of unsalted butter.

1 1/3 Cups of Sugar (granulated)

1 1/3 Cups of Light Brown Sugar, gently packed

4 Eggs (at room temperature)

4 teaspoons of vanilla extract ( it is best to use pure vanilla extract.)

2 Cups of Buttermilk (at room temperature)

1 Cup of Sour Cream (at room temperature)

4 Tablespoons of coffee (freshly brewed)

3 1/2 Cups of Flour (all-purpose flour is best)

2 Cups of unsweetened Cocoa Powder

3 teaspoons of Baking Soda

1 teaspoon of Kosher Salt


Heat oven to 350 degrees. Place mini cupcake papers in mini cupcake pans. Put butter, sugar and light brown sugar in a mixing bowl, cream these ingredients together using an electric mixer on a medium-high speed for about five minutes. Now, scrape the sides of the bowl and lower the speed of the mixer, then add eggs (one egg at a time) and vanilla.

Now, Mix well. In another bowl, whisk together sour cream, buttermilk and the coffee, then in another bowl combine cocoa powder, flour, salt and baking soda. Now, take turns adding the buttermilk and flour mixture into the eggs mixture. Start with the buttermilk mixture, then the flour mixture (alternating from one mixture to the other until they are both incorporated into the egg mixture. Try hard not to over mix the batter, once you feel you have everything incorporated gently use a spatula to make sure everything is combined well.

Now, using a scoop or spoon, put batter into your cupcake liners. Place your pans in the center of your oven and bake for about 15-20 minutes, poke a toothpick in the center of one cupcake and if it comes out clean than your cupcakes are done. Once cupcakes bake, cool them in their pans.
